North Mecklenburg Community Chorus Performed
By Suzanne Fulton May 22, 2012

Attendees at the first set of spring performances by the North Mecklenburg Community Chorus (NMCC) the weekend of May 18-20 enjoyed an Italian-American themed event at the Huntersville United Methodist Church. A bella notte--complete with the colors and flavors of Italy, as well as rousing, romantic, and sentimental tunes and comedy was delivered by the chorus and musical accompanists, under the direction of Sandy Rogers.
With two large screens flanking the stage, there was not a bad seat in the “house.” These screens showed not only the chorus, but also clips from Lady and the Tramp when Bella Note was sung and photos of fathers of members of the chorus during Oh My Pa Pa.
Highlights of the show were stellar performances by several excellent soloists. Heather Rogers (an aria in Italian), Kay Roebuck (Tenderly), Angela Hoffman and Ashley McCombs (Innamorata), Daniela Sims (Con Te Partiro), and Steve Gilbert (Oh My Pa Pa). A sexy rumba was performed to Sway by guest professional dancers/instructors Yusimi Cruz and his sister Genesis, and silliness happened during “Pizza,” thanks to “chefs” Barbara Kincaid and Jeff Sims. The ensemble Left@25 performed two jazzy numbers.
Sandy Rogers rearranged several well-known songs to fit the chorus, including a witty revision of words to Santa Lucia. This switch up became a self-description of the NMC Chorus…”We are the basses. Don’t watch our faces…”.
Other aspects of the show were a silent auction and two opportunities for audience members to get up and dance.

Master of Ceremonies was Doug Pressley, Technical Director Jesse Rogers, Viceo Technician Chris Kerns and lighting was conducted by Katie Von Peterly.
Organized in 2010 as a nonprofit, NMCC Inc., this chorus performs several times per year with a goal of bringing joy to and expanding singing opportunities for adults, youths and children. Member volunteers like Barbara Kincaid, Ann Caroll and Daniela Sims perform essential roles in producing and promoting the shows.

Other performers scheduled at Tosco Music Party were:
Michael Chapdelaine, Danny Ellis, Jon Vezner, Chris Trapper, Hans York, Hope Waits, Adrianne,
Natalia Zukerman, A Fragile Tomorrow, Haley Dreis, Casey Weston, Brandon Buckmaster, The Cypress Singers

About 40 singers and friends, both long-time acquaintances and newcomers, gathered for the Main Chorus fall Welcome Party at the Birkdale Residence Club on August 22, 2011.
A big highlight of the evening was the introduction of Sandy Rogers, Main Chorus Director.
